Porcelain tiles may be classified into natural glazed and polished tiles. The natural porcelain tile normally does not undergo any further finish after it is exposed to high temperature. This type of tile may be referred to as unglazed or through body tile where the colour goes all the way through. The glazed tile is coated with liquid glass that allows the manufacturer to put in a variety of designs and play around with colours. It comes out glossy and is one of the easiest to maintain. They are highly recommended as walls or accents in bathrooms and kitchen.
Now that the pilot hole has been cut it is possible to drill the main (large) hole. Attach the appropriate diamond core and ensure that there is a constant supply of cold water (see water cooling information in the previous sections of this article). Diamond cores that are larger than 13mm will require an adapter with pilot pin that locates into the pilot hole that has been cut previously to ensure the perfect hole will be made. Starting the drill vertically begin to drill in a circular motion with sufficient pressure until the tone of the drill changes.
Porcelain comes in many shapes sizes and beautiful designs. All of these characteristics seem to make porcelain the clear choice when it comes to quality durability and easy of cleaning and maintenance. In reality the truth can be vastly different. The specifications regarding porcelain tiles are never verified or tested so any manufacturer can claim that their tiles are porcelain. Tile manufacturers can claim that they are manufacturing porcelain tiles without having them tested. In many cases tiles labeled as porcelain do not have the characteristics that make them quality tiles.
These methods will not keep the drill bits cool enough and will drastically shorten the life of the drill bit. Ensure that the drill is in normal mode and set the drill to between 1000 and 1500 rpm. If you have marked the tile with a marker it is best to drill into the tile using a method called leaning in. Leaning in ensures that the drill will not slip and wander off center as you begin to drill into the tile.
