Cheap porcelain tiles can be difficult to properly install. Cheap tiles may look nice on the surface but they may not be able to be cut cleanly with a tile saw and may chip on the edges. Also if the tiles are porous then it will be difficult to clean up the excess grout. Grout haze can become embedded in the tiles and make them look vastly different after they are installed compared to what they looked like before they were installed. Cheap tiles can have quality control issues. Many times people choose their sample tile and then order them.
Some of the more common issues that cheap porcelain tiles can have include: Cheap porcelain tiles can actually be extremely porous and difficult to clean. They will absorb all types of dirt spills and contaminates. These types of porous tiles will start to show dirty spots especially in heavy use areas and in the center of the floor where people walk. Soon your floor will look ugly and these types of deeply embedded stains are extremely difficult to clean. Often times it can help to seal these porous tiles but this can be costly and time consuming especially for a product that you thought was dense and would be easy to clean and maintain.
Unglazed tiles do not have a coated surface and full body porcelain tiles dont show wear anyhow due to the colour and design being throughout the entire tile. These types of tiles have a PEI rating of 0-5 meaning they can be used in any area. PEI classes are 0 through 5. The porcelain enamel institute scale is one that is used to help detect areas that tiles should be used in. The glazed tiles that have the overall 0 to 5 rating can be used anywhere from no foot traffic to industrial traffic making them ideal for use in your home.
